The Chrysta Rae Photography Scavenger Hunt: Anniversary Edition

In the month of September, I participated in the Chrysta Rae's Photography Scavenger Hunt on Google Plus (profile link here).  This was her 6th hunt, and her anniversary hunt as the first one was held one year before (hence the anniversary bit - clever eh?).

The hunt works like this:  we are given a list of 10 categories to shoot, and 30 days to shoot them.  One photo per category is submitted, and then they are judged by a panel of expert photographers.  The submissions are kept a secret until the judging takes place, then they are all released in what is known as the "reveal".

This was the second hunt I participated in, so I had a better idea of what to expect this time around. The competition is fierce, so once again my main goal was not to embarass myself with my submissions, and I was successful at that.  It turned out to be a great deal of fun, and a great way to learn both my camera (Canon S100), and the tools used for processing them (GIMP in my case) much better.  I also found that the hunt was very compatible with my main hobby of geocaching as many of my shots were either taken during geocaching hunts, or in locations I originally discovered while out geocaching and returned later with my camera.

The following are my submissions for the anniversary edition of the Chrysta Rae Photography Scavenger Hunt:

Triangle:  Taken outside the Skydome in Toronto after a day of wandering and geocaching. (See the rest of the entries for this category here)

Mother Nature, What Where You Thinking?  Taken at the Niagara Safari near Fort Erie. (See the rest of the entries for this category here)
Black & White:  Also taken at Niagara Safari.  Black and white animals in black and white - very meta.  (See the rest of the entries for this category here)

Red:  Every hunt has a colour, it seems.  This is Zeke's beach bucket, taken on a beach on the north shore of Lake Erie.

I won second place from one judge, and an honorable mention from another for this photo.  My first one of each.

Bad Luck:  Taken at Port Dalhousie, Ontario.  This was an actual crime scene.  The boat sank overnight, and when we arrived the police were still investigating.  I had to walk around "Police Line: Do Not Cross" tape to get this shot. (See the rest of the entries for this category here)
Drop:  Taken in Welland Ontario on a whim.  Turned out to be better than anything else I could take.

I received an honorable mention for this photo.

Exhausted: My daughter, Abigail, just before being put to bed for the night. (See the rest of the entries for this category here)
Horse:  Taken in Pennsylvania while on a cache hunt. (See the rest of the entries for this category here)
Feather:  Taken at the Sculpture Festival in Lenoir NC.  More sculptures here. (See the rest of the entries for this category here)
Spark:  Taken by flashing a lighter in my dark basement. (See the rest of the entries for this category here)
